TMCS Head Off IT Nightmare
On Wednesday 21 April 2010, security firm McAfee sent out an Anti-Virus update to its customer’s PCs across the world resulting in many of those running Windows XP unable to use their systems.
Thanks to the latest remote management technology, local IT service provider Taylor Made Computer Solutions based in Fareham, were able to avoid potential crisis for its customers including hospitals, schools, councils and businesses across the region.
Engineers worked late into the evening to find a solution to the update that has caused tens of thousands of systems worldwide to crash or repeatedly re-boot. By remotely logging on to customer’s servers the team were even able to prevent the update from happening from the company’s main office.
All customers had been notified of the problem within hours of it being released and those with affected PCs had been rectified by Thursday morning. Customers who would have potentially experienced serious downtime with detrimental effects on productivity were able to continue working as normal.
“We had three machines affected by the update glitch from McAfee, but before I knew what had caused it Taylor Made had contacted us to let us know they were working remotely to resolve the problem. By 9:30am the next morning all machines were back up and running, which was a weight off my shoulders after a restless night! Without the pro-active thinking of Taylor Made we would have lost hours of productivity”: Commented Alistair Sawyer of RM (Rotary) Services.
Mark Daniels, Director at Taylor Made added: “Teams across the company have worked together to do an amazing job in sorting what was a nightmare scenario. Crisis at customers that include hospitals, schools and businesses have been fixed and/or averted with amazing skill, speed and quick thinking. Using remote access and monitoring technology we were able to keep the impact to our customers to a minimum which is obviously fantastic news.”
