WHITELEY, HAMPSHIRE – 18 July 2019: Peach Technologies (“Peach”) and Taylor Made Computer Solutions (“TMCS”) work together with The Hamble School to inspire students to follow a career in technology.
In August 2018, Peach Technologies (“Peach”) and Taylor Made Computer Solutions (“TMCS”), two of the most established and respected providers of IT and communications services in the UK announced that they were combining the two business’ to operate from state-of-the-art office in Whiteley and will be undergoing a re-branding exercise in the near future.
As part of a Business in the Community project, Peach and TMCS have been working with The Hamble School throughout July to inspire Year 10 students to consider employment in the technology sector. The project was designed to demonstrate the varied roles within business, highlighting that there is more to working in IT than they may have thought. Assistant Head Teacher Sarah Valleley commented “At The Hamble School we have worked hard over the last year to enhance our Careers Education to ensure that all our students are prepared for life beyond secondary school. We are very excited to be working with Peach Technologies and Taylor Made Solutions and view this partnership as an important step in providing our students with wider curriculum opportunities.”
The Year 10 students from The Hamble School were set a ‘Dragons Den’ style project, creating a new company name, logo and creative designs for the combined company. “The students had to understand the brief and work as a team to create a whole new brand concept for our company” said Joe Jeffers, Chief Financial Officer at Peach & TMCS. He continues “We have strong brands locally and wanted to see their ideas for bringing the two company brands together, we were really were impressed with what they came up with, particularly in such short timescales”
The students were split into 12 teams and spent a day working on their ideas before presenting to the team of Dragons from Peach and TMCS. “Giving students the opportunity to work alongside local business leaders really broadens their understanding of what it will be like in the workplace. The Dragons Den gave students a chance to develop the skills that employers are looking for – what better way to sharpen up their teamwork, leadership and communication!” added Zoe Hill, Engagement Manager (Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire) from Business in the Community.
The winning team were invited to the Peach & TMCS offices on the 16th of July, meeting with the CEO Darren Scott-Healey to celebrate their success, enjoy pizza and play pool in their American-style in house Diner. “We were delighted to welcome the winning team of students to our offices – building relationships with local schools is critical to our success as a business. We’re a significant employer in the local community and I have no doubt that we will welcome some of the winning students back for interviews as apprenticeships or part of our graduate intake in years to come.”
